Vehicle Verifier Bond
A "vehicle verifier" is a person who inspects, records, documents, and submits to the department , or it's authorized representatives, such proof of vehicle identification as may be required by the department for purposes or registering or transferring the ownership of vehicles. CVC Section 675.6

A vehicle verifier is required to maintain a $5,000 bond.

The rate for the vehicle verifier bond is as follows:
$100 for a 1-year bond
$175 for a 2-year bond
$250 for a 3-year bond

Motor Vehicle Registration Service Bond
A "registration service" is a person engaged in the business of processing for the public applications for registration, transfer of ownership, registration renewals, conducting lien sales, and processing dismantler documents.

A registration service is required to maintain a $25,000 bond. The annual rate for the registration services bond is $250.00

This bond requires a completed and signed BOND APPLICATION (PDF) and clean credit and is subject to underwriting approval.


Motor Vehicle Dealer (New / Used) Bond
CVC Section 285. "Dealer" is a person who:
(a) For commission, money, or other thing of value, sells, exchanges, buys, or offers for sale, negotiates or attempts to negotiate, a sale or exchange of an interest in, a vehicle subject to registration, a motorcycle, snowmobile, or all-terrain vehicle subject to identification under this code, or a trailer subject to identification pursuant to Section 5014.1, or induces or attempts to induce any person to buy or exchange an interest in a vehicle and, who receives or expects to receive a commission, money, brokerage fees, profit, or any other thing of value, from either the seller or purchaser of the vehicle.
(b) Is engaged wholly or in part in the business of selling vehicles or buying or taking in trade, vehicles for the purpose of resale, selling, or offering for sale, or consigned to be sold, or otherwise dealing in vehicles, whether or not the vehicles are owned by the person.

A new or used motor vehicle dealer is required to maintain a $50,000 bond.

The rate for the new/used dealer surety bond is tiered. Rating factors may include, but are not limited to, the length of time in business, credit score, claims history and financial statement information. Multi-year rates available.

Motorcycle Dealer Bond
A motorcycle dealer, motorcycle lessor-retailer, ATV dealer, or wholesale-only dealer (less than 25 vehicles per year) is required to maintain a $10,000 bond.

The rate for this motorcycle dealer bond is as follows:
$200 for a 1-year bond
$350 for a 2-year bond
$500 for a 3-year bond

Freight / Property Broker Bond (formerly ICC Broker bond)
